KAMPALA— The Science, Technology, and Innovation Secretariat under the Office of the President is preparing to exhibit homegrown innovations and technologies during the upcoming National Science Week.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Monica Musenero.

The event, designed to give local innovators a platform to promote and commercialize their products, was announced by the Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero, during a briefing at the Deep Tech Centre in Namanve on Tuesday, May 13.

Held under the theme “Made in Uganda: From Innovation to Market,” this year’s Science Week will spotlight Ugandan developers who are creating impactful technologies that enhance the quality of life for citizens.

Dr. Musenero highlighted that the event marks the culmination of various achievements made by the Secretariat in recent years. These include transitioning from pilot innovations to full-scale industrial development, conducting the country’s first clinical trials for locally produced therapeutics, and significant growth in the electric vehicle industry. Currently, Uganda has over 5,000 electric motorcycles and 27 electric buses in operation, with nearly 40% of their components locally manufactured.

Other key milestones include the development of a nationwide electric vehicle charging network, featuring more than 140 electric battery swapping stations, and the revival of major manufacturing plants such as Sukulu Phosphates.

Additionally, the Secretariat has launched specialized technology summits, including Deep Tech and Climate Tech, and has initiated vaccine production lines for both human and animal health.

The six-day National Science Week is scheduled to run from Saturday, June 15, to Friday, June 20, and will be held at Kololo Independence Grounds.
