Uganda Airlines is the flag carrier of Uganda, which was founded in 1976 and ceased operations in 2001. The airline was later revived in 2019 by President Yoweri Museveni with a new fleet of planes, including two Bombardier CRJ900s and two Airbus A330-800neos.

Reviving the national carrier aimed at promoting tourism and business opportunities in Uganda and the East African region and was one of the ways for government to create jobs and also generate income so that Uganda becomes self-sufficient in various sectors including air travel. President Museveni called upon all Ugandans to fly the Uganda Airlines for both travel and cargo.

The Uganda Airlines has greatly promoted tourism in Uganda.

Uganda Airlines operates flights to several destinations across Africa, including Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Juba, Mogadishu, Kilimanjaro, Bujumbura, and Kinshasa. The airline also plans to continue expanding its network to other parts of the world, including Europe and Asia.

The Expansion route of the airline

The airline has superior comfort and exceptional onboard passenger experience, and the feedback of those who have used it before is warm and humbling.

What came out clear among many other things first was, high cabin service ratings, favourable schedules, baggage allowed weights and ability to connect from Entebbe to other destinations like Dubai direct and at relatively affordable fares. Ideally, these pointers are so good for a ‘young’ airline.

The cabin services are top notch

The airline takes pride in delivering a seamless travel experience, has comfortable seats, delicious meals, and top-notch entertainment options which make your trip an unforgettable experience. Safety is also a top priority, and all this is provided at affordable competitive prices and exceptional service that will make you feel like a VIP.

The Uganda Airlines has also for the third time in a row won the Africa’s youngest Aircraft Fleet Award, this Award recognises airlines across the globe, which maintain young, modern, efficient aircrafts and being environmentally conscious. It was also ranked fifth in the list of the world’s youngest aircraft fleets in 2023.

Indeed, the resumption of the airline has promoted tourism by reducing the cost of air travel and easing connectivity for tourist travel to and from Uganda and has as well stimulated growth, employment creation and revenue generation for government directly through the airline’s activities and indirectly as an enabler of other industries.

Uganda Airlines has also promoted exports through facilitation of quick access to international markets on top of improving balance of trade by saving and generating foreign exchange directly and indirectly. According to Shakila Rahim Lamar, the head of corporate affairs and public relations, Uganda airlines also seeks to reduce the dominance of foreign airline operators which bears unfair influence on the cost of air travel and offers no benefit to Uganda’s aviation potential in terms of careers and global aviation revenues as well as raise Uganda’s brand image as an investment and tourist destination through the airline as a flag carrier.

Overall, the main aim of Uganda Airlines is to provide safe, reliable, and affordable air transportation services for passengers and cargo within Uganda and to destinations throughout the East African region and beyond. The airline aims to contribute to the economic development of Uganda by promoting tourism, trade, and investment. Additionally, Uganda Airlines aims to become a leading airline in the region by providing excellent customer service and maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.
