General Court Martial Conducts Trials on Maj. Steven Oluka and Maj. Zadock Obor over UPDF Base Attack

A General Court Martial (GCM) legal team, under the leadership of Brig Gen Robert Freeman Mugabe, is conducting trials in Somalia for UPDF personnel alleged to have committed capital offenses. Two senior officers, Maj. Steven Oluka and Maj. Zadock Obor, are facing charges related to cowardice in action. President Museveni expressed his views on the situation and praised the UPDF’s response to an attack on the Buulo Mareer base. The GCM is in Somalia to handle cases involving the UPDF Act, and the trials will last for two weeks.

ATMIS Intensifies Operations in Somalia Against al-Shabab

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has resumed joint military operations with Somali security forces after a three-month technical pause in its troop drawdown. They are intensifying efforts to combat al-Shabab and ensure stability, despite weather-related challenges. ATMIS is on track to gradually withdraw its forces over the next 14 months, with full withdrawal by the end of 2024.

UPDF Marine, Special Forces, 222, 301 Brigade Infantry Squads, Eliminate Terrorists Responsible for Tourist Murders

Two foreign tourists and a Ugandan guide were killed by suspected terrorists near Queen Elizabeth National Park about two weeks ago. The UPDF, under the direction of intelligence, conducted a successful operation to eliminate these terrorists near Lake Edward. The operation targeted members of the group responsible for the tourist murders, and efforts are ongoing to eliminate ADF splinter groups.

Uganda Police Detain ADF Intelligence Officer and Remnant

The territorial police of Rwenzori West and Kitagwenda arrested one Matsiko Farouk, a 27-year-old suspected ADF member, in Rwenzori West and Kitagwenda. He claimed to have been abducted and trained by the ADF before escaping. Another ADF remnant, Komaketch Ransur, was found with live ammunition in Kampala, also claiming to have escaped ADF. Security agencies are actively monitoring ADF elements to protect Ugandans and visitors.

UPDF Deploys On the Uganda-Kenya Border Due To Turkana Attacks

The Ugandan army is taking action to stop Turkana warriors from infiltrating the Karamoja region due to ongoing attacks. President Museveni issued an order banning Turkana pastoralists from grazing until those responsible for the deaths of Ugandan geologists are produced. 

Uganda Police Detains Two Over Human Trafficking

On October 4, 2023, two individuals, including a South Sudanese refugee and a local resident, were accused of trafficking males from South Darfur. They were apprehended in Uganda, and further investigations revealed the victims were promised a better life but were trafficked.

President Museveni Confirms UPDF Airstrikes on ADF Camps in Congo

President Museveni, on Thursday 5th October confirmed Uganda’s military, UPDF, launched airstrikes on ADF camps in Congo. He emphasized the need to protect citizens from terrorist threats. He praised the precision of the attacks and acknowledged cooperation with the Congolese government in this effort.

Police Crackdown Otuke and Busia Gangs, Recover Guns, And Over Shs 20 million

In two separate police operations in Otuke and Busia districts, notorious thieves were neutralized, and weapons were confiscated. On September 25, 2023, in Busia, police pursued and fatally wounded a robber named Kudu Ashraf, alias Mr. X, recovering cash and weapons. Another arrest occurred on September 26, 2023, in Kampala, where a notorious robber, Ouni Norman Kaunda, was apprehended, and an SMG was recovered.
