President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has applauded the Members of Parliament for passing the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Amendment Bill, 2025, calling it a timely move that averted potential conflict among the army, Parliament, and the judiciary.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today held an interactive session with journalists from the Tooro subregion at the State Lodge in Fort Portal. The discussion focused primarily on the Parish Development Model (PDM) and its role in transforming Uganda’s economy.
During the meeting at State House Entebbe, President Museveni praised the longstanding ties between Uganda and Arab nations and called for increased investment by UAE companies in sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, infrastructure, and tourism.
Under the theme “Realizing Sustainable Development Goals in Africa: Progress and Way Forward,” the forum seeks to accelerate efforts toward the UN’s 2030 Agenda and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
President Museveni emphasized that sustainable development in Africa requires deliberate economic and ideological transformation. He criticized the export of raw materials and highlighted the importance of expanding regional markets, improving infrastructure, and investing in human capital.
President Yoweri Museveni urged Ugandans to continue supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to sustain peace, development, and wealth creation. Speaking in Lira, he laid a wreath at the Barlonyo monument, commemorating victims of the 2004 LRA massacre, emphasizing that Uganda’s current peace is a result of strategic efforts, including defeating the LRA and ADF.
Vice President Jessica Alupo praised the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) for their contributions beyond security, particularly through business, infrastructure, and agriculture. She highlighted the UPDF Engineering Brigade’s role in national projects and Operation Wealth Creation’s impact on agricultural productivity.
Jowel Okello, a successful farmer from Amolatar District, has been praised by President Yoweri Museveni for his remarkable transformation from selling alcohol to running a thriving agribusiness. Starting with family land in 2016, Okello now owns over 300 cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and various crops, and employs 18 permanent staff.
President Museveni recognised and rewarded farmers in the Lango Sub-region for their dedication to improving their livelihoods through the Parish Development Model (PDM).
