A spirited group of NRM delegates in Kibaale District have unanimously endorsed Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, the Speaker of Parliament, for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the NRM ticket.

The endorsement took place on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Star Light Hotel in Karuguuza Town during a meeting attended by sub-county NRM chairpersons, district councilors, District Executive Committee (DEC) members, and leaders from eight NRM-affiliated leagues.

Under the campaign slogan “Tested, Tried, and Reliable,” Speaker Among has pledged to promote unity within the NRM, strengthen service delivery, and advocate for inclusive leadership across Uganda.

Delegates, led by Fred Matovu—the NRM District Chairperson—hailed Among’s exceptional leadership as Speaker and expressed unwavering support for her bid. However, they also appealed for increased logistical support to local councils and district speakers.

Dr. Emely Kugonza, MP for Buyanja East and head of Among’s campaign task force in the Bunyoro Sub-region, presided over the meeting as chief guest. He applauded Among’s loyalty to the party and her passion for inclusive development, especially for marginalized communities.

Representing the Speaker, Dr. Kugonza rallied for united backing and described her as “intelligent, humane, and dedicated to empowering youth and women.” As a token of appreciation, he presented Fred Matovu with a new iPad to aid communication and understanding of party activities.

Other local leaders, including Resident District Commissioner Stephen Byaruhanga Mfashingabo and LCV Chairperson Godfrey Muhonge Kasanga, also voiced their confidence in Among’s vision and leadership credentials.

Speaker Among’s five-point campaign agenda includes:

  1. Strengthening NRM’s visibility and legacy,
  2. Forming national development coalitions,
  3. Supporting grassroots transformation,
  4. Advocating for accessible healthcare, and
  5. Deepening youth and women engagement.
