Buganda Region NRM Leaders Pledge Support for President Museveni Ahead of 2026 Elections
KYANKWANZI—National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders from the Buganda region have reaffirmed their strong support for President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming 2026 general elections. They also called on the government to intensify efforts in service delivery to communities across the region.

The declaration was made during a mobilization rally held at Butemba playground in Kyankwanzi District under the theme “Buganda for Museveni.” The event was spearheaded by Butemba County MP Patrick Bingi Nyanzi and Kyankwanzi Woman MP Christine Bukenya Sendawula.
In his address, MP Nyanzi raised key concerns affecting residents in Kyankwanzi, including rampant land grabbing by both individuals and the National Forestry Authority (NFA), crop destruction by stray animals, irregular electricity supply, and the slow pace in implementing government programs.
“These challenges have contributed to the NRM’s loss of some positions in the previous election,” Nyanzi noted.
MP Bukenya echoed the need for improved services, urging the government to upgrade the district’s health facilities to Health Centre IV level to enhance access to healthcare.
The leaders also voiced concern over the exploitative practices of some moneylenders who reportedly confiscate National Identity Cards from borrowers—a trend they say has led to disappearances when individuals fail to reclaim their IDs.
Bukenya pledged her continued commitment to strengthening the NRM in the lead-up to 2026, alongside fellow party leaders.
In response, Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka issued a firm directive to moneylenders in the district.
“I’ve given the moneylenders in Kyankwanzi one week to return all National IDs. Failure to do so will result in revocation of their licences,” he warned.
Kiwanuka also promised legal support for bibanja landowners entangled in lengthy court battles, vowing to deploy government lawyers to ensure justice is served.
He expressed optimism that with these issues addressed, the NRM would reclaim all contested positions in the next elections.
The rally drew several top officials, including Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa, Lwengo Woman MP Cissy Namujju, Kasambya County MP David Kabanda, and other party leaders.
The day concluded with musical performances led by popular singer Stabua Natooro, who thrilled the crowd with a song dedicated to President Museveni.
