The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, arrived in Beijing, China, on Tuesday for a series of military engagements.

On Wednesday, the CDF and his delegation toured the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), a state-owned defence enterprise specializing in aviation products and advanced technology. The team was taken through different units showcasing cutting-edge aviation equipment.

During his stay, Gen Kainerugaba is expected to attend a military conference bringing together chiefs of defence from several countries. He will also hold bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart and engage in other high-profile discussions.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed at the airport by senior Chinese military generals and officers. His delegation comprises Major General Dan Kakono, Commander of the Artillery Division, and Major General Felix Busizoori, Commander of the 4th Division.

According to a statement from his office, the visit is aimed at strengthening Uganda–China military cooperation. The two nations continue to enjoy warm relations spanning military training, peace support operations, and other areas of defence collaboration.

The UPDF Directorate of Communications highlighted that this engagement reinforces the historic partnership between Uganda and China, nurtured since 1986.

Since taking up the role of CDF, Gen Kainerugaba has consistently sought to deepen Uganda’s defence ties with allies. His previous diplomatic visits include trips to Russia, Rwanda, Algeria, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has also hosted high-level meetings with senior military representatives from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the United States at his offices in Kampala and Entebbe.
