Uganda and Kenya Deepen Ties with Seven New Bilateral Agreements
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and his Kenyan counterpart, President William Ruto, have signed seven new bilateral agreements aimed at reinforcing cooperation between the two neighboring countries. The signing took place on Wednesday, July 30, at State House in Nairobi during President Museveni’s official visit to Kenya.

These latest accords bring the total number of Uganda-Kenya bilateral agreements to 25, covering key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and fisheries. The agreements are expected to boost economic growth in both countries through increased food production, enhanced aquaculture, and improved strategies for attracting visitors.
Uganda and Kenya also pledged to collaborate in other vital areas including transport infrastructure, property rights, and regulatory standards. In addition, a new framework has been established to promote investment and technological exchange, with specific focus on supporting informal traders in the Busia metropolitan area.
Addressing a joint press conference, President Museveni emphasized the importance of productivity and market access for Africa’s development. Quoting a biblical prayer, he said, “They left undone what they ought to have done and did what they ought not to have done,” to illustrate a core challenge on the continent. He added, “The more goods and services you produce, the wealthier you become. But the central question remains: who buys what you produce?” He urged African leaders to focus on expanding markets and consumer engagement to sustain economic progress.
President Ruto hailed the occasion as a testament to the strong historical and strategic bond between the two nations.
“This occasion reflects the strength of our historical partnership, anchored in common ideals, deep respect, and a shared ambition for regional stability and progress,” he stated.
Ruto reaffirmed Kenya and Uganda’s dedication to joint efforts in trade, infrastructure, energy, security, and regional integration, describing the agreements as a step forward in realizing shared aspirations for development and unity.
