ENTEBBE, June 25, 2025 – The Head of the Indian Military Advisory and Training Team (IMATT), Brig. Gen. B.S. Fogat, paid a farewell courtesy call to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, marking the end of the Indian team’s two-year tenure in Uganda.

The meeting, held Wednesday afternoon in Entebbe, served as an opportunity to reflect on the longstanding military cooperation between India and Uganda. Gen. Kainerugaba extended his appreciation to Brig. Gen. Fogat and his team for their invaluable contributions to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), particularly in enhancing training programs and deepening bilateral defence relations.

“I commend the Indian team for their commitment to improving our military training and for fostering a strong spirit of cooperation throughout their mission,” Gen. Kainerugaba noted, according to a statement released by his office.

In his remarks, Brig. Gen. Fogat expressed gratitude for the hospitality and collaboration extended to his team by the UPDF. He praised Gen. Kainerugaba for his active leadership in promoting higher training standards within the force.

The farewell event was attended by several senior UPDF officials, including the Chief of Joint Staff, Lt Gen. Jack Bakasumba.

According to recent communications from the High Commission of India in Kampala, India and Uganda enjoy a robust and multifaceted military partnership, with a focus on training and capacity development. India has consistently provided training opportunities for Ugandan military personnel, notably through the Indian Army Training Team stationed at the Senior Command and Staff College (SCSC) in Kimaka, Jinja.

As Brig. Gen. Fogat and his delegation prepare to conclude their mission, the CDF’s office confirmed that a new IMATT contingent will soon assume duties, ensuring the continuity of this strategic defence collaboration.
