Uganda Hosts 15th IFATSEA Africa Regional Meeting at Speke Resort Munyonyo
KAMPALA, Uganda— On June 17, 2025, Speke Resort Munyonyo, set on the serene shores of Lake Victoria, officially welcomed delegates to the 15th IFATSEA Africa Regional Meeting. The high-level event, taking place through June 19, was organized by the International Federation of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Associations (IFATSEA) and hosted by the Uganda Air Transport Safety Engineering Association (UGATSEA). It attracted aviation safety professionals from across the continent, reinforcing the resort’s reputation as Uganda’s premier destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).

The focus of the meeting was on advancing digital transformation in aviation, with key discussions surrounding the integration of emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence—into Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems.
Justice Steven B. Kavuma, Chairman of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, officially opened the event on behalf of Gen. Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport. In his keynote address, Justice Kavuma praised the vital contributions of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEPs), calling them the “unsung heroes” of aviation safety, and emphasized Uganda’s dedication to enhancing safety and technical capacity in the sector.
The conference agenda, available on ifatseaarm25.org, featured expert-led panels, collaborative forums, and networking opportunities aimed at strengthening regional and international partnerships in aviation safety.
Speke Resort Munyonyo, with its state-of-the-art convention center, 477 elegant guest rooms, and nine dining outlets—including the popular Nyanja Restaurant—provided an ideal venue. Posts from @UgandaCAA on social media captured the energy and professionalism of the event, showcasing the resort’s Olympic-size swimming pool, lush gardens, and tranquil ambiance as a perfect complement to the conference’s productivity.
The event follows other recent high-profile gatherings at the resort, such as the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo and the Africa AI Summit, further solidifying its place as a top-tier MICE facility.
Aligned with ICAO standards, the 15th IFATSEA Africa Regional Meeting strengthened IFATSEA’s mission to improve air navigation safety across its 74 member countries. With Uganda’s 2025/26 national budget allocating Shs 430 billion to tourism, with a strong emphasis on MICE development, the event marked a strategic milestone. It not only pushed forward the continent’s aviation safety agenda but also highlighted Uganda’s growing leadership in global aviation, with Speke Resort Munyonyo standing out as a key player in that journey.
