Musevenomics Conference 2025 Opens in Kampala with Focus on Uganda’s Economic Future
The two-day Musevenomics Conference 2025 has officially kicked off at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, organized by the Uganda Development Forum (UDF) and its partners.
The conference is themed “Sustaining Musevenomics: Navigating Uganda’s Economic Future in a Disrupted World” and features a packed program of expert speakers, thought-provoking discussions, and strategic sessions.
Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Uganda, is chairing the opening session, which includes key addresses by Finance Minister Matia Kasaija and Gen. Salim Saleh, the UDF Chairperson.
Throughout the event, participants will explore critical economic topics such as value addition and industrialization, the cost of doing business, inclusive development, and Uganda’s economy in the face of global disruptions.
The conference will conclude on Friday with a keynote address by President Yoweri Museveni.
This timely gathering comes as Uganda reaches the midpoint of Vision 2040 and begins implementing the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV). This year marks the launch of an ambitious growth agenda aimed at boosting Uganda’s GDP from $50 billion to $500 billion.
Opportunities and Challenges Ahead
Uganda stands at a pivotal moment, with notable economic opportunities including
- Rising revenues from coffee and gold exports
- Increased remittances
- Expanding investments in the oil sector
- A stable macroeconomic environment
- Sustained national security
However, the country also faces significant challenges on national, regional, and global fronts, such as:
- Regional security threats
- Global trade policy shifts marked by unilateralism
- Ongoing geopolitical conflicts
- Disruptions in global value chains and logistics
- Falling development aid and rising costs of global finance
- Persistent health threats like HIV & AIDS, COVID-19, and Ebola
In the face of these issues, the Musevenomics Conference seeks to unite Uganda’s top minds from policy, academia, civil society organizations (CSOs), and the private sector to reflect on historical lessons and craft forward-looking strategies.
Core Purpose of the Conference
The primary goal is to foster a shared understanding of Musevenomics—the economic philosophy attributed to President Museveni—and how its principles apply to Uganda’s current realities.
Key Objectives Include:
- Enhancing public appreciation of Musevenomics and its role in Uganda’s development journey
- Evaluating the relevance of Musevenomics principles in today’s shifting global economic landscape
- Formulating concrete recommendations to accelerate Uganda’s socio-economic transformation
Showcasing Success and Promoting Research
Throughout the conference, digital exhibits will showcase successful projects implemented under the Musevenomics framework across various sectors.
Organizers have committed to compiling and distributing full documentation of presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions within two weeks after the conference.
Moreover, selected research papers and presentations will be developed into a scholarly publication exploring Musevenomics and its practical applications across Uganda’s economy.
