The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has called upon Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure full tax compliance to help bridge revenue gaps.

Marion Lubowa, the Team Lead for Government Revenue Reconciliation and Reporting in the Public Sector Office (PSO), highlighted the significance of timely service and compliance during her appearance on the URA’s online TV programme, Tax Mchuzi.

Lubowa pointed out the impressive increase in filing ratios from 35% to 90%, but she emphasised the ultimate aim of achieving 100% compliance. She further stressed the necessity for government entities to accurately pay and file Pay as You Earn (PAYE), Withholding Tax, and Value Added Tax (VAT).

Claire Tumusiime, a Client Relationship Manager within the PSO, reiterated the responsibilities of MDAs in terms of registration, formalisation, and timely payment of taxes. Tumusiime also encouraged the use of the newly revamped web portal for registration, emphasising the need for accurate information.

She urged accounting officers to seek support from the URA whenever challenges arise and warned of the consequences of non-compliance, including investigations, penalties, and repercussions under the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets (PPDA) regulations.
