The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has selected a team of 10 athletes to represent Uganda at the 2024 Under-20 World Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place from August 27 to 31 in Lima, Peru. The delegation includes an equal number of male and female athletes.
Among the athletes to watch is Africa’s 3000m steeplechase champion, Loice Chekwemoi, who will compete in her specialty event. Chekwemoi has consistently showcased her potential as an emerging talent in the field.
UAF Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abdallah Muhammed, expressed optimism regarding the team’s prospects, anticipating better results than those achieved in 2022. “We have high hopes for all our athletes. Loice Chekwemoi, in particular, stands out as one of our exceptional talents, consistently performing well at both the school and national levels. We look forward to seeing her excel in Lima,” stated Mr. Muhammed.
The UAF believes that strong performances from these young athletes will contribute to the future success of Ugandan athletics.
“We are relying on these young men and women to ensure the continuity of our sport. As more athletes approach retirement, we are confident that these young talents will step up to fill the void left by our aging stars,” Mr. Muhammed added.
