President Museveni Pledges Continued Partnership with Churches to Improve Luwero Communities

LUWERO— President Yoweri Museveni has reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with churches in the greater Luwero region to uplift the living standards of communities that were once affected by the war.

In a speech delivered by Vice President Jessica Alupo at the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Luwero Anglican Diocese, President Museveni urged churches to inspire their congregants to pursue better livelihoods by engaging in profitable ventures.
“A ministry that resonates with its people is one that motivates them to strive for and achieve improved living standards,” Museveni remarked.
He emphasized the need for Christians to balance spiritual growth with addressing their physical needs, cautioning that neglecting the latter could lead to persistent poverty and stagnation.
“While striving for spiritual fulfillment, some individuals overlook their earthly responsibilities, thereby continuing to face socio-economic hardships in their families and communities,” the president stated.
Museveni stressed that a prosperous and fulfilling life requires harmonizing spiritual values such as prayer, worship, and scripture study with the essential needs of daily life, such as food, water, shelter, healthcare, education, transport, and employment.
He encouraged Christians to model their lives after Jesus Christ, highlighting His example of both spiritual devotion and economic productivity. The President reminded the gathering that Jesus, in addition to fasting, praying, and healing, worked as a carpenter alongside His father, Joseph.
Museveni also urged churches to help believers transition from subsistence farming to more modern, commercial agriculture, enabling them to become wealth creators and job providers.
The President acknowledged the Luwero Anglican Diocese’s partnership with the government in advancing the region’s socio-economic development and the country as a whole.
The event featured a fundraising drive to construct a diocesan synod building. Museveni pledged UGX 50 million towards the project, while Vice President Alupo delivered UGX 30 million on behalf of the government and personally committed an additional UGX 20 million. Katikamu North MP, Denis Sekabira, contributed 100 bags of cement for the construction.
Luwero Anglican Bishop Rt. Rev. Wilson Kisekka revealed that the estimated cost to complete the synod building is UGX 2 billion.
